Some Great Picture Books

Maya is currently “on sabbatical” as she goes through the Harry Potter series yet again. I haven’t been reading any juvie or YA books, other than the Ivy & Bean series with my 2nd grader. So, I thought I’d keep the blog going with some recent picture books we’ve read. These are our favorites as of late:

Cloud Country by Bonnie Becker (a Pixar book–who knew!)

About a cloud girl who can’t seem to get her cloud shapes right. She spends her time daydreaming and making shapes out of things she’s seen below on the earth. A magical take on the science of cloud shapes.

The Princess and the Giant by Caryl Hart

A long bedtime story about a resourceful girl who tries to find a cure for the grumpy giant that leaves up the beanstalk near their house.

Finding Winnie by Lindsay Mattick (illustrated by Sophie Blackall of Ivy & Bean!)

The true story of the bear who inspired Winnie-the-Pooh. This was a surprising story–I had no idea! The history and actual pictures after the story itself are so interesting.
